There is a difference between the 2nd edition and the first. If I remember correctly; the first edition had good information and diagrams for magick circles, glyphs, and other specifics. The second edition did not have that material. It had been twenty years since I read the first edition...so I ordered the second w/o considering that original information would be deleted or reduced...if anything, I thought a second edition would have more material!Nope...What is still useful in the 2nd Edition:1. Palm reading basics2. Tarot Card basics3. Astrology basics4. Seasons/days/color basicsI'm going to try and get a first edition copy and compare the two editions. If what is missing from the second is true to my memory, I will update this review whether I'm correct or not.I implore others who may have read the first edition AND remember the magic circle diagrams and instruction/diagrams...please post some pics and info!
This is the most recent book I purchased, as it seems to always be in every Wiccan's library, regardless of tradition. When I first ordered the book, I checked out the pages online and it seemed like everything I wanted. The first few chapters were great, and the book is fine, but I would not recommend this book to anyone beginning Wicca, because it might scare them. I don't follow any traditions similar to Gardnerian or Seax Wicca, and if that's all Wicca was, I would probably lose faith. lol. Well, not exactly. However, I'm a solitary Wiccan and this book seemed to focus more on coven Wicca and how to practice as a coven, rather than alone. There are things I read in this book I never read in other books on the religion, and it's definitely different than what I practice. Has anyone seen the campy 2016 movie called the Love Witch? The "witch" in the Love Witch was ridiculously beautiful! But many of the things she did in the movie, were entirely taken from this book. From the coven initiation to the disgusting Witch Bottle scene. lol. That was all taken from this book... My husband is curious about my spirituality and wanted to read a book on my beliefs. So I purchased Bucklands Complete Book -- until halfway through, I told him I don't think he'd like the book and he might get a different impression, if that's going to be the first book he reads on my religion. So, I gave him Scott Cunninghams guide to a Solitary Practitioner and he'll get a better representation of what I believe, compared to this book. However, I still will keep this in my library, because it does have some good info.
This book is for you if you (like me) want somewhat of a beginner’s guide to witchcraft that includes history and tradition as well as rituals/spells and more. The books I’ve come across in the past focus on one or the other, history or practice, whereas this book is comprehensive. This is just like a textbook - there are lesson quizzes, an index, recommended reading lists, etc. With the wealth of information I have even busted out my highlighter. The only thing I find a little irksome is the amount of times the author quotes/references one of his other books, sometimes twice in a single page. The man has written something like 30 books on witchcraft, so he’s obviously very knowledgeable on the subject. I’m eager to continue reading.
Read Laurie Cabot if you want to know the history of Witch Craft, and Wicca. No man I’ve read gets it. Not that a man one with Nature, out in it for days, silent hours alone, doesn’t get it. They’ve felt Her. A cowboy riding fence knows her better than these fools who want to run around naked with horns on their heads, pretending to be some high priest of “sensual†rituals. The men, or males, who WANT to be Wicca haven’t a clue. Its not in their soul; they don’t know Her. Its just an ego game. BUT She is REAL.
Christians commonly study other religions to continue to justify their faith. I recommend this book to those who do. For those who are wanting to become a Wiccan priest, this book is for you. What I like most about it, so far, despite the historical information and fifty books or so it mentions is that it mentions the positive side of learning more about the forces of nature and protecting life and health.
The book is roughly 10×13inches, and even though it's soft cover it is still very well made and handled with care. I recieved it in pristine condition.This book is well known as one of the best starting books into the Wiccan path. It provides a well written overview as well as some more.in depth sections, and while one on this path should read everything with a grain of salt and interpret things in their unique way, this book will point you in the right direction.Buckland was taught by Gardner, and his knowledge shines in this work, providing a solid starting ground for those who are new to the craft and a good reference for those who have practiced for a long time. I am very excited to have this book on my shelf!Blessed be!

Very basic. Not a lot of information you can't just get on the internet, or just from having been around the craft for enough time. It could be of use to a beginner, however, still, this information is easy to find. And, some of it I found inaccurate or skewed.
